Lynda Yi, MS, LMFT
My name is Lynda (she/her), and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over fifteen years of experience providing counseling to individuals, couples, and families. I value establishing a safe and open counseling environment for clients to feel heard and accepted. I utilize an integrative approach in therapy, drawing from cognitive behavioral and solution-focused strategies to empower clients and collaborate in overcoming challenges.
I specialize in working with depression, anxiety, women’s issues, relationship difficulties, and adjustment issues. I am bilingual in English and Korean. Additionally, I offer supervision to those pursuing their LMFT or LPC in VA.
MY STORY
My journey to becoming a therapist had a few twists and turns. I started as an industrial design major in college, stemming from my love of art and working with my hands. As I continued various studies, I found myself drawn to psychology and decided to change majors. After graduating, I worked in research at Georgetown University for several years. I studied families and gathered data on the effects of school-based programs and performance in lower income families. In collecting data and observing families in different settings, I realized I wanted to play an active, rather than observational, role in the lives of people. This led me to pursue my degree in couples and family therapy.
Over the past fifteen years I have worked in private practice settings as well as school settings. I worked with grade school students in the California school district, and college students within an on-campus counseling center at the University of Washington. I have also worked at an in-patient psychiatric unit providing group therapy and one-on-one consultations.
I love working with people. I feel it is a great privilege to share in someone’s story and to hold space for that person in their vulnerability. I serve, not as an expert, but a collaborator in finding one’s strengths and navigating challenges.
I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Communications from the University of Washington.
I received my Master of Science in Couples and Family Therapy from the University of Maryland.
